September 5, 2009. Abilene, TX. - The Fort Lewis Football team knew they would be facing a powerhouse Division II football team and that they did. Abilene Christian ranked #3 in the nation defeated the Skyhawks 58-10 late Saturday night in Texas.
Abilene was able to reach the endzone first on a 45 yard pass making it 7-0. Four minutes later the Skyhawks lit up the scoreboard when freshman Nate Soucie nailed a 26 yard field goal to make it 3-7. That would be the last time the Skyhawks would score until the fourth quarter when Justin Peters found Harrison Scheider for a 13 yard touchdown pass.
Fort Lewis racked up 278 total yards of offense, 269 yards of that in the air. Freshman QB Tim Jenkins went 17-34 for a 186 yards and only one interception. Wide out Justin Johnson tallied 95 yards receiving and 151 all purpose yards.
The Skyhawks who are now 1-1 will travel to CSU-Pueblo next Saturday for their RMAC opening game. The game is set to start at 6:00 pm.
